The Maggi diet is often confused with the common broth diet, apparently because of the name. However, the basis of the diet, which we will consider in this article, is not broth, but eggs and grapefruit.
Origins of the diet
The name "Maggi" is the result of an incorrect transmission of the sound of the word. In the original version, she is called "Maggie" which is the diminutive form of the name Margaret. According to some rumors, this diet owes its appearance to Margaret Thatcher. According to the popular version, the original weekly version of this diet was developed specifically for Thatcher at the famous Mayo Clinic.
Although it is not known whether the legendary prime minister resorted to this method to lose weight, the diet, even after making tangible changes to the original version, is strongly associated with this woman. The sheet with the description of the technique is said to have been kept in the Iron Maggie papers for many years.
General principles
Maggi's diet is designed for 4 weeks, during which some of her fans managed to lose up to 10-12 kg. The composition of the food is not poor and contains a sufficient amount of meat, vegetables, fruits, etc. Thanks to such a variety of diets, those who follow this diet do not experience severe discomfort. In addition, the menu allows you to eat your fill, which helps to avoid decreased performance, lethargy and fatigue.
However, this system requires strict adherence to the smallest detail. The dietary rules are as follows:
- It is necessary to strictly adhere to the meal schedule, the order of meals and their quantity;
- If the diet does not specify a portion of the product, you can eat it without limits;
- It is unacceptable to replace products, even if the replacement appears to have the same value;
- If the diet clearly states the quantity of a product, then you must eat it, even if you don't want to. You can reduce the portion of the dish by cutting products, the quantity of which is not strictly specified;
- The interruption of the diet is considered a deviation from the recommended diet, even for half a day. If you stop, the diet cannot be continued from where you left off. We will have to start from the beginning;
- In order to strictly follow the recommendations, it is better to prepare food 1-2 days in advance and store it in the refrigerator in portions in separate containers. In this case, you will only have to open the refrigerator and take the desired box;
- Drinking liquids is essential. It is not necessary to drink 2 liters of clean non-carbonated drinking water per day;
- Besides water, you can also drink unsweetened tea and coffee and milk. These drinks are not counted in the fluid intake calculation. To sweeten them, you can use a sweetener with a calorie content of 0 kcal. It is allowed to drink non-alcoholic, zero calorie diet drinks
- Salt and other seasonings are allowed. However, you must try not to overestimate;
- When preparing food, preference should be given to boiling, steaming and cooking without oil;
- Sugar, saturated fats, oils, mayonnaise, meat and fish broths and all types of alcohol are subject to complete exclusion from the diet;
- At least moderate physical activity is recommended. If your heart is not lying in the gym, walk at an active pace for at least an hour a day;

- Thursday:half roasted or boiled chicken, 3 tomatoes, 1 cucumber, 1 toast, 1 grapefruit or orange;
- Friday:2 hard-boiled eggs, lettuce, 3 tomatoes, 1 grapefruit or orange;
- Saturday:2 boiled chicken breasts, some ricotta or feta, 1 toast, 2 cucumbers, 2 tomatoes, curdled milk, 1 grapefruit or orange;
- Sunday:2 teaspoons cooked, a tin of tuna (without oil), boiled vegetables, 2 cucumbers, 2 tomatoes, 1 toast, 1 grapefruit or orange.
Maggie's original diet prescribed by Margaret Thatcher
The original meal plan, which served as the basis for the modern diet, consisted of a menu for only one week. After this time, the course should be repeated. Also, there were some specific conditions that have undergone changes:
- On most diet days only clear, natural water and a limited amount of other drinks were allowed;
- On days when meat was allowed, a glass of whiskey was allowed. The rest of the time alcohol was strictly forbidden;
- If serving size is not specified, the amount of food has been determined at the discretion of weight loss;
- The duration of the diet should not exceed 4 weeks.

Contraindications and side effects
This diet has practically no contraindications. The only thing you should pay attention to is that it cannot be recommended for pregnant women and people with allergies to any of the products provided by the regimen.
